Becker M.P. Law graduated from the Australian National University with Honours in Bachelor of Science. Following his honours degree, he commenced a PhD in the field of renal immunology under the supervision of A/Prof Helen Healy and Dr Andrew Kassianos at The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Becker is currently in the final year of his PhD. His current research interests focus on the identification and characterisation of innate lymphocytes (natural killer cells, γδ T cells, mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells) in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Using multiparameter flow cytometry and immunofluorescence, innate lymphocyte subsets are investigated from native human kidney biopsies with various forms of CKD. The aim of the project is to determine the functional roles of these specific immune cell subsets and how they contribute to fibrosis in CKD.
